We understand how irritable it can be when your skin is itchy from dryness, and scratching will make them worse. It is very common to have dry skin especially during the winter months, and sometimes throughout the year. Aside from the weather being a culprit for skin dryness, the cause can also be because of indoor heaters, aging, soaps and cleansers, and congenital diseases. If you have experience with dry skin, you may have had symptoms that include cracked skin, erythema, flake, or scaly skin.
Here’s what you can do to avoid drying out your skin:
Avoid taking hot showers or baths
Don’t shower or take baths more than once a day
Use moisturizing soaps
Wear gloves when using cleaning products and detergents
To keep your skin well moisturized, use lukewarm water to shower and bathe, a cleanser or soap with strong moisturizing formula, and most importantly, use the products that suit you. For the best moisturizing results, make sure to apply body lotion or cream to your skin immediately after showers or baths.
If you aren’t sure what ingredients can help keep your skin moisturized, look out for mineral oil, vaseline, petroleum, vegetable butter and oil. Other ingredients to look out for in moisturizers can be glycerin, glycolic acid, hyaluronic acid, ceramides, antioxidants, aquaporins, and salicylic acid.
